विष्णो: पृष्ठे चे वामे नरभवनमनर्थप्रदम दक्षिणे

 चाप्यग्रे च कालीनरहरिशिवतदभिन्नसर्वग्रेमूर्ते: |

आर्यो निम्नस्थलस्थो चदि मनुजगृहं दक्षिणेग्रेस्य

तस्मादुच्चत्वं नेष्टमिष्ट निकटमपि तदन्यत्र तत्पाद्भाजाम || मनुष्यालयचन्द्रिका

Houses in rear and left of side of Vishnu and in front and right sides of Kali, Narsimha or Shiva and all other fierce deities will cause misfortunes (अनर्थप्रदम). If the deity is placed in a low place, houses in the front and right are not auspicious. High position of houses in respect to temples is not auspicious.

Please note that this law is applicable on all religious places whether it is a temple, mosque, or Church.

For those who seek his (Deity) proximity locations other than the one mentioned are permissible. The general rule is that the rear and left sides of saumyamurti is (gentle
deities) and front and right sides of Ugramoorthis is (fierce deities) are to be avoided. Houses elevated from the location of deities are also not auspicious.
